6th Grade Plaster Masks

We are in the middle of creating the annual plaster masks!  This lesson is very very messy but the kids love it so much! 

4th Grade Crazy Cactus

We are in the middle of creating a crazy cactus in fourth grade!  Students are creating bright patterns, adding paper spines and will finish off with puff paint.

3rd Grade Tibetan Mandala's

Students were introduced to the incredible Tibetan sand mandalas that are created by Buddhist monks.  Tibetan sand mandalas are created to remind us of the never ending cycle of life and death.  After taking weeks to create, these mandalas are dismantled in a closing ceremony.  The sands are swept up and dispersed to the audience and a nearby flowing body of water to spread healing energy throughout the world.  We reviewed symmetry and radial symmetry to create our own mandala. 

2nd Grade Psychadelic Sand Dollars

Using pastels, second grade students practiced overlapping shapes and creating patterns!  To finish off, they got to add some glitter glue. 

Kindergarten Owls!

The Kindergarten is learning about owls!  We are in the middle of creating owls out of air dry clay!

5th Grade Molas

Fifth Grade students learned about the extraordinary art of the San Blas Islands which are off the coast of Panama.  Mola's are a brightly colored pieces of intricately appliqued cloth made by the Kuna Indians.  This project incorperated the wonderful traditional mola designs into a bright paper collage.

1st Grade Lascaux cave paintings

First graders learned about art that was created thousands of years ago!  Time is a hard concept to get for really young kids but they sure did enjoy creating their own cave painting inspired by the art in caves in Lascaux, France!
